Communiqué #3 - Organization

Helen Kayfish

May 2023

  • What can the league do for you?
  • Are you passionate about the league and wish to see the league continue to grow?
  • How do you propose to encourage new members to join?
  • How do you see your council inviting the women in your parish to come and see what the league is about?

We at the provincial level hope to share ideas with you on how to do this.

I know, to quote 'I'm too busy, I'm working and raising my family' is what you are hearing. I joined the league at the invitation of both my mother and mother-in-law. I was young with a very young family. I was extremely shy, wouldn't talk to people, was very young, as I said. I had 4 children by the time I was 27. Did I have time to attend meetings that I never knew much about or was very interested in? NO, I DIDN'T! I gave it a try though, brought my new-born baby with me to meetings. The 'grandmothers' loved it! they took turns holding him and I only got him back to feed and change when needed. They were so welcoming, they had all been in my position before and I seemed to have forgotten that. Maybe, I thought I was the only one who was ever in that position. I soon realized that whatever time I had was all that was needed. I gave and did what I could. As my children grew and left home, even though I still work part time now, I found I was more open to doing what I could and to 'POP' right out of my shell! I have been a member of the League now for 34 years and have served in many different areas on parish, diocesan and provincial levels of the league. I am one of those members who is very passionate about the League, and I don't wish to see any councils close or lose members.

Let's do what we can for God and Canada! Let's go out there and invite the women in our parish-es to join the league and give whatever they can!

Communiqué #2 - Organization

Connie Crichton - Provincial President

This position is currently vacant

January 2023

Important items to take note of related to this position:

  • Membership fees for 2023 should be collected and submitted before February 28, 2023. If you haven’t been using the online membership system, now is the time to start. Find the form to enroll (Resource 515) on the website.

  • The Annual report deadline for parish councils was January 15, 2023. Response was disappointing with 46% of councils responding. What would be a better process that would encourage a better response? We need to celebrate all the good work of our councils.

  • Do you need assistance in setting up your new executive in the new structure? Let your Diocesan council know and they will offer assistance.

Communiqué #1 - Organization

Connie Crichton - Provincial President

This position is currently vacant

October 2022

Important items to take note of related to this position:

 Life Membership Criteria - After a moratorium on nominations for the past two years an ad hoc committee recommended changes to Life Member Criteria that were accepted by the board. The changes were outlined in Shari Guinta’s September 2, 2022 communique. The moratorium has now been lifted and nominations will again be accepted as of September 15, 2022 (extended to September 30).

 Annual Report Memo was sent out with the Fall Parish mailout on October 3, 2022. There will now be just one survey to be completed by each parish council. The surveys will be available on November 1, 2022. It is important to complete the survey to give recognition to the work being carried on by your council. Deadline for completion is December 15, 2022. A link to download a paper copy will be made available. Paper copies are also to be submitted to national office by December 15, 2022.

 An increase to National Per Capita Fees was passed and the National fees will be $25.00. in addition, you will have to add Provincial per capita of $7.00 and diocesan per capita (this varies by diocese).

 Membership fees for 2023 should be collected and submitted before February 28, 2023. Membership drives and awareness about the league are an important aspect of attracting new mem-bers. In many cases renewal of membership may require personal contact through a phone call or a social occasion that will draw out your members.
