Prince Albert’s Sacred Heart Parish Celebrates 90 years





Ninety years of service to the League for God and Canada is a lot of volunteer hours to celebrate, so parish CWL Council President, Irene Quesnel dressed up in period clothing for the occasion. Mass was celebrated by the Bishop’s rep, Father Maurice Fiolleau with 7 priests in attendance. Marlene Yungwirth led in the singing of O Canada. After grace, Jody Hazelwood gave a Toast to the League. A beautiful catered meal was served ending with a decorated 90th Anniversary cake donated by the Co-op bakery.


Out of town guests and presenters were National President, Velma Harasen of Regina, Provincial Past President, Yvonne Colleaux of Saskatoon, and Diocesan President Marianne Kramchynsky of Rosthern. Local dignitaries who brought greetings were Deputy Mayor Martin Ring, City of Prince Albert; Grand Knight Richard Beaulieu, Olga Thoms of St. Georges Ukrainian CWL; Bishop’s representative, Fr Maurice Fiolleau Vicar General, and Fr. Greg Elder, Vice Chancellor.


The Sacred Heart CWL History of 90 years was read and led by Irene Litwin and Laurentie Gobeil. Irene also spoke about the Thrift Shop that has been in operation for 59 years. A 70 year gift was to have been presented to Iola Dean for 70 years of service to the League, but due to ill health was unable to attend. Wasylia Lucyshyn won the beautiful flowers donated by Berkitts Florist. Fr. Greg gave a Thanksgiving and Blessing to the League followed by God Save the Queen led by Marlene Yungwirth on the piano. Irene Litwin did the CWL Blessing song and thanked everyone for coming.
