Faith - Janette Rieger

Janette joined the League in 1996. At that time, she was a busy mother with a young family, but when she heard her council president speak at mass about how important it was for Catholic women to have a voice in the country, that message resounded in her and she joined. She remained as a prayer partner for a few years. But when the children were older, she started attended her council meetings and has been active in the League ever since!

After serving in various positions on her council, she became president. From there she was asked to become the Regina Regional Chairperson in the fall of 2012 and was also the Secretariat Chair for the national convention that was hosted in Regina in 2013. That fall, Janette was asked to take the vacant position as Saskatchewan Provincial Recording Secretary, a position that she was appointed to a second time when there was a vacancy. At the same time, Janette had let her name stand for the Regina Diocesan Council, as she thought her time on provincial was done. She was elected and served on the Regina Diocesan Council from 2015 to present as: Spiritual Development, Resolutions, Legislation, Organization, President, and Past President. Janette created many PowerPoint presentations that she shared with League members at meetings and conventions over the years.

Janette joined a Year 2 Strategic Plan Working Group. Their group created The Joy of Leadership. She is a graduate of the Catholic Women’s Leadership Foundation course (2nd cohort; 2019-2020). She was awarded her Life Membership in 2025.

Currently, in addition to her position on the Provincial Executive, Janette is the contact person for her parish council, Regina Regional Council Treasurer, one of the Regina Diocesan contacts for the R3 to 1 Unity! Project, and is serving on the National Service Sub-Committee under Madonna Clark. She wears a lot of CWL hats!

Janette has a degree in Political Science and a diploma in dental assisting. She managed her husband’s office and was the bookkeeper for over 35 years. In her retirement she continues to enjoy quilting, crocheting, gardening and preserving the produce. She remains active in her parish, currently facilitating the RCIA program. Her husband, children, and her young grandchildren keep her busy.
