Janette Rieger

Regina Diocesan President

I was born and raised in Regina and lived for a few years in Saskatoon when my husband was attending university. I now live in Emerald Park, a short drive east of Regina and have been here for over 30 years. I have been married to my husband Bill since 1982; we have 5 children, one son-in-law, and one daughter-in-law and two grandchildren.  I have a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Regina – Campion College, and a diploma in Dental Assisting.

Currently I am the President of the Regina Diocesan Council of the CWL. I have also held the Organization, Resolutions, Legislation, and Spiritual Development positions. I am the past-chairperson of the Regina Regional Council of the CWL, and served for 4 years on the Provincial CWL Council as recording secretary for Marge Szabo and Jean Reader. I also volunteered for one Strategic Plan working group. Our group produced The Joy of Leadership (#630) document. I served as the Secretariat chair when Regina hosted the National CWL convention in 2013.

I have been a CWL member since 1996. My parish CWL council is St. Joseph’s, Balgonie, I have held positions of president, treasurer for 5 years, as well as filling other positions. I was also very fortunate to have been accepted into the second cohort of the Catholic Women’s Leadership Foundation course. I studied with this fantastic group of women from spring of 2019 to spring of 2020.

I enjoy giving workshops and presentations. I created a Letter Writing Workshop and presentation for a Regina Regional CWL meeting, and I have created and given a presentation on the S’Mores Program at the 2014 Saskatchewan Provincial CWL Convention. In 2020 and 2021, I presented workshops on the Welcome Program at the fall Provincial Workshop. These were held virtually due to the pandemic, so the workshops were presented online. I presented a workshop on The Joy of Leadership at the 2022 Provincial CWL Convention.

In the past, I have been very involved in my parish of St. Joseph's in Balgonie, SK.  My volunteering there included Catechism coordinator and teacher, parish council recording secretary, and Adult and Spiritual Education chair, Lay Service leader, proclaimer of the word, and communion minister.

From 2007-2014, I served on the Board of Martha House Incorporated, a home for retired priests and laypeople. I also served for one year as recording secretary subsequent to being on the Board.

I was also Recording Secretary and Treasurer for several years for the band parents' association of my children's elementary and high schools.

I have recently learned to crochet and I enjoy doing small projects. I also enjoy piecing quilt tops and doing some of the actual quilting. I have acquired quite a collection of material (a big ‘stash’, to my fellow quilters)! I hope to spend my days sewing up every last piece of material!
